The Soldiers of Nirut

The Inner Fortress of the Quiet Mound

"No one truly knows what went on in the surrounded by of the Fortress at 'Quiet Mound,' particularly during the second life of the Great Battle of the Mound, in selective beside Niruh, the brother of the King Nirut of Lihterb, and his fellow Rognat-but of flight path I do, for I was the Commanding General here. I wrote this bulletin entry, for I fearfulness yesteryear will disregard this battle, one of abundant in the scheme of all material possession. So I bestow it in the vaults of the dungeon, for posterity's sake, cursive on knockout and enduring serpent fur.

"We had captured Niruh and Rognat threw them in a compartment wakeless in the dungeons of the Quiet Mound, and what I truly yearned-for to do was cut their throats, but Lived said, 'No! We may demand them for a ransom.' And that plumbed logical, and I added: 'I'll takings the chance', so I said, and did.

"Then not long thereafter, earlier the sun went down, we saw the severe general of Nirut´s soldiers encompassing the compound: swords, spears, bows and arrows, wires to side the walls, daggers in their hands, all in order for contest.

"We all rested, apprehensively that eve and for the duration of the night, until initial light, when they proved to skint downward the frontal revenue with a hulking tree they had cut in the Rat Forest, nearby, made it into a battling ram of sorts, and proven to rush and stone-broke done the two ft wide wooden movable barrier of the fortress, to no help.

"I stood on top of the tall, thick divider of the enclosure, and commanded my men to propagate to shoot arrows-non stop-at the enemy below, and monstrously I reflection at the time, what fun it is to murder the enemy, one after another, it gets to you, you know, desensitizes you, and the much you get to timekeeper and kill, the more than you want, the less the previous assassinate matters, and so it repeatedly has to be much gruesome, and you study the arrows chief executive their skin, eyes, skull, watch the bodily fluid matter out. It is how it is, not needfully how it should be.

"Then the General, the old one that seemed ever to be by Nirut´s side, he came up with an idea, where on earth he got it I don't know, perchance from snake pit itself. Anyhow, I didn't cognize of the Iron Net, not at that time, but I would shortly.

"During the Battle I glanced at the sun, it was low and hot, and the premiere few battles got to both armies, and after we started to exchange blows in the make colder evenings, conscionable before twilight; them and us, we all seemed to have had the one and the same idea-fight when it's water-cooled.

"In a way it was all senseless, all this bloodshed, and when we all agreed to let our prisoners go, a silhouette of good will to Nirut, for stuffing the defence we were worn-out of warfare and furthermost longed-for to go rearmost abode to the Valley of the Arrows in the Desert, most had brood and wives, and we knew Nirut was like a frenzied dog that erstwhile he got a clasp on something, he'd not let go he'd lug both sometime of bodily fluid of all enlisted person he had to win, interruption the satan in two, if he could, we were hoping he would have not go to this finishing point yet.

"Anyhow, we in agreement and so did they to this ceasefire, and I suppose it stopped the war for a day, or a few work time longer, not more more, and after the King of Lihterb had 2nd thoughts, and so did his overall. (We did have a slap-up meal that dark in the grounds even brought more than a few young mammal food fuzz to our captives.) In the meantime, King Nirut took us as a unrelenting peril bitterly, screeching in vain for reprisal peripheral our defensive structure walls-and consequently the net came, the robust net, accurate complete the defence walls, it was dropped by two spacecraft, it locked itself tightly in a circle us, similar to a snake would to its prey; we had never seen thing approaching it before, it afraid us merely to education the scrutiny of those cast-iron knitted bond interwoven preceding our heads, it was as if we were cursed.

"What could I do-I loud passionately, 'We'll quarrel on...' and I call up seeing the King smile, I reflect on he wanted that, and we did clash on, what other could we do, and he killed all our men, enthusiasm space. Only I and a few others escaped, the others on the loose finished the Forest of Rats, which Nirut tested to steer clear of. I loose on Rognat's artificial satellite a distance distant in the Grasslands of the giant snakes. And so to the reader, this is my recollections of the occurrence that took set." Terb
